![]() Everything is in favor of corporations, not people needing care. If you insist on blaming “greedy doctors” (who are paid less now than they were 40 years ago), spend an hour or so reading about how the current American medical system works. Have you voted for candidates who have supported single payer, universal healthcare, etc? If not, you’re ripping yourself off-it’s just that the ripoff is done through an exceedingly elaborate system of insurance corporations (which are banks, basically), medical systems, and regressive politics. No, medical corporations are not innocent or pure-hearted, but spare us all the handwringing ”they won’t get away with this!” nonsense-this is our fault as citizens and voters. So, what’s a capitalist corporation to do but raise the price from the actual price of $100 to a new inflated price of $333 so they can actually get the $100 they need when the insurance company will only pay out 30%. ![]() If a treatment actually costs $100, and the medical systems present that to an insurance company, the insurance company is big enough to essentially collectively bargain and say “we’ll only pay 30% of that”. And since we decided we as a society are too good for universal healthcare and prefer to purchase our insurance our damn selves (or include them as a “benefit” of employment), medical systems have to negotiate with insurance providers to establish how much of the bill insurance is willing to pay. That means medical systems-to stay functional businesses-have to set their prices based on what they can get paid for them. Come hell or high water, our dumbasses have decided to “be free from the tyranny of social programs” like universal healthcare. Our current medical system is built on top of the “rugged individualism” idiocy of the American self-perception, and it’s corresponding foundation on capitalism. If you’ve never voted, congratulations, this is your reward. ![]() The fact is, if you’ve ever voted for a candidate (on any level) that was against single payer, or “obamacare”, or for that matter any Republican candidate: congratulations, this is your reward. I gather you don’t have insurance as others pointed out, there’s a lot of different things Scripps and other medical systems can offer you to help pay. ![]() It’s truly fucked up, but in no way is it just Scripps. Have you never been to a doctor, hospital, ER, etc before? This is not some scam that Scripps devised to screw you over, this is the American medical system.
